Well boys….we all knew it was coming. I remember back in the day I was so excited about this game. When I first started playing, WCQs were in full swing and drawing a crowd of 70+. I was excited to get in on a game relatively early in its development and be a part of a great team. Where did it all go wrong? I wish it was simple to explain but there were so many factors that led to this game flopping.
Most of us can agree though, that Ben Lundquist pissed in the koolaid first. His over the top, wowza cards really added in an element of randomness and blowouts really sunk this game by turning off devoted players and the general populace by making us feel that our actions in the game didnt really matter. From unbalanced OP cards like Rage Of Kadras, Wegu, Ice Grasp to name a few, his warped idea of what a solforge game should be warped the game we loved. When people like my team voiced our concerns, we were labeled as cry babies. Well guess what, we were right every single time and were proven right when every single card went thru the nerfing net. We were simply lamenting the fact that our favorite game was going into the shitter.
But wait you say, not all of the cards were Ben's babies. Ok. Maybe so. Which brings me to my next factor. SBE just did a piss poor job of testing. When you had all the top players begging to be let in QA to help….for free, but you said nope. Guys like Stautmeister you labeled as trouble makers and never included him. You literally had so many good players able to help you make a fun and balanced game, to even count them. A small team can only do so much. This isnt a call out of the existing QA team to be clear….I know how you guys get butthurt and defend yourself and SBE. No because im sure some of you actually voiced your concern and just got shot down…probably by Ben, lol.
Next on the list is COMMUNICATION. You guys just plain sucked at relaying info. You screwed up so many times with card of the day and shafted you KickStarters its just sad. You never listened to us. We told you several different times what we wanted and you simply didnt listen. Give us things to spend money on, we were willing, but no. Instead you just pumped out OP card after OP card, took your sweet time on balancing any fuck ups, and then went dark for months at a time. SBE deserves everything its getting at this point. Still….it makes me sad to see this game die…who knows maybe someone comes in and saves it all at the last minute.
And one last thing…shame on you for waiting until after xmas to give the bad news. I hope anyone that spent money on this game in the last few months gets a T-shirt or something. This didnt happen overnight and its pretty shady to lead the community on. I dont care if you were trying to recoup as much of your losses as you could before cutting the cord…Its just wrong and was the final bird flup to the people who helped get your game this far in the first place. So long SBE! Dont let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!

When you had all the top players begging to be let in QA to help….for free, but you said nope. .
FYI they actually did this a few times while I was there. Brought in some top players, got them on the Staging server and had tournaments and stuff and collected feedback. They could probably have done it more, but they at least tried it a few times. (just not very recently)

If SBE really didn't want it to come to this, they had ENDLESS chances to change things.
In the closing days of the old client, I *literally* begged support to sell me more deck slots. SELL ME, not give me. Instead, the trainwreck that was client 2.0 made deck slots effectively unlimited and free, taking a steaming dump on the dozens and dozens of slots I sank all my silver into. No refund, and when I asked, the response said I must be absolutely mad.
I just totalled up everything I spent on this game, between the Kickstarter and then all the expansion presales and the periodic gold infusions to buy discount chests….. Such a waste.

In SBE's defense, I did hear rumors the client 2.0 fail was largely in part due to Free Range Games. When you hire the wrong company and they hold your client hostage, I guess it can be extremely costly and difficult to fix. I mean, even a lawsuit could take years and by then your game and playerbase would have died. I know I won't be playing any Free Range Games in the future.
The new client release was a huge debacle which threw all plans for advertisement and new player acquisition for a loop. I mean they were getting Kibler back to stream too. I hope Kaelari or a new buyer can step in to take over in time. This game really deserves to get saved.

Very interesting to hear FRG brought up. The only time I've heard FRG and SBE mentioned together is when SBE contacted me as a Kickstarter and pimped out FRG's KS super-strongly. Being a sucker at that point, I threw some money at FRG (who STILL haven't completed their game, and it's terrible), mainly out of loyalty to SBE. Huge mistake.
If SBE hung major business needs off of FRG, a totally unproven developer, that's just another screwup. SBE has plenty of their own.

Yeah you can blame FRG with regards to the client issues to an extent. Too bad they didnt tell us what was going on.
You cant , however , blame FRG for all the other screw ups. The new buggy client was just the straw that broke the camel's back. They had already alienated some devoted players by that point by doing all of the above in the OP. But still…we hung around. Gl on the revival those that r working on it. I hope you do well. Ill be focusing on games with a potential future in the meantime.
