Grimgaunt is definitely overpowered in the demo. There's times when you draw him, look at the board, and go "oh, 4 things are about to die, I guess I'll play this card and win".  The Tempys/Alloyin deck has no good answers for him once he gets past a few health. And if you don't happen to draw a well-times lightning bolt or lightning wyrm, often you simply can't deal enough damage to him to kill him. He's definitely the single card I fear the most when playing vs the AI.

That said, he could retain all of his same stats and powers and still not be overpowered in the real game.  Overpowered in this limited card pool? Yes, definitely. Overpowered in a much larger card pool? Who knows. Maybe they will print card in tempys/alloyin that make it much easier to deal with him or that simply overshadow him.

And this is a good point.  Unfortunately, we can't always cede to a later card pool.  Sure we can do that for now, but say we're a couple of expansions in.  If SBE does release a card that is Overpowered but could be balanced if another card in a later expansion comes out, we still have to call it what it is now.  We have to report on the meta as we know it, even if we know that it's going to change (through later card releases, hotfixes/patches, etc.).  Better to just get in that habit now :D

Just put up the second of many SolForge gameplay videos on YouTube!  This one features me dying a horrible death against the AI because (I think) I got greedy and went for the Chrogias when I shouldn't have.  This video also has some commentary, but you'll have to judge whether or not you think it's very good. :D   If nothing else, you get to hear my sultry voice ;)   Feel free to comment here, there, anywhere!

EDIT: Fixed video.

Very cool – what are you using to record your videos?

I think you are undervaluing Vengeful Spirit. One of the main ways the Tempys deck wins is spamming Forgeplate Sentries late game. Vengeful Spirit is your second best answer, behind Cull. It's really not a bad idea to level it up immediately. And especially when you chumped the level 2 forgeplate with a fleshfiend, you should have chumped with the vengeful spirit instead to give it -3 -3. I basically think of him as extra copies of Cull.

I also would have played the echowisp both times you drew it.

The whole setup?  It's needlessly complex.  I have an Elgato Game Capture HD on my Mac, an AppleTV and my wife's iPad.  I can technically do recordings at a much higher resolution than what I have there (and probably will into the future), but I'm testing the balance between file size and good resolution.  At some point, whenever Elgato tech support will fix their crappy software, I'll be able to livestream to Twitch.tv as well.  Right now, I can't get farther than 2:30 minutes before their software logs me out of my Twitch account.  Good streaming solutions for Macs are a little hard to come by it seems…

You're probably right about Vengeful.  I used to dislike it a lot, and still hold a lot of prejudice against it.  It's just hard to get it to work where you can actually trade a Level 1 Vengeful for a Level 2 something else.  I feel in my gut like there's always something more you'd rather have than a leveled-up Vengeful.  Still, Vengeful does debilitate an Armored creature very well.  And you're right about that chump-block.  That was a silly move.

Echowisp I have a hard time justifying these days (really, ever since Magma Hound hit the streets).  It's a rush-type card, but really craps out if the game goes late.  I started investing into a late-game strat with Chrogias (which is probably what killed me), so Echowisp kind of stopped making good sense.  Echowisp isn't that "play every time you see it" kind of card.  It's usually a good idea, but not always.  I'd have to go back and look at the two turns I got it and see if I made a big mistake in not playing it.

I use a mirroring tool since I'm using a PC :( I cant get to a full screen like your video can but it cuts off at 10 mins till I pay. I think till the PC version it will be easier recording and streaming on a MAC in the meantime since it plays nicer with the iPad.

Overall nice work. :)

Well, the benefit of streaming to Twitch on a PC is the fact that you can get XSplit (which they've adamantly refused to put on a Mac).  I just happened to have all of these separate parts lying around and it strung together to make a pretty good solution.  The Game Capture HD software (if it worked) would actually be an excellent solution since it would allow me to both stream and capture at the same time and at different output rates (say a lower resolution for streaming, but a higher resolution for YouTube).

I've seen that mirroring software around.  (Reflection? Reflector?  Something like that.).  Seems like a really great option (and inexpensive, too).  Not sure how capable it is for handling video capture or if you need another program for that.

Third Gameplay Video is up!  This time, I take a look back at some of your comments from video #2 and follow it up with another play-through of the Nekrium/Uterra deck.  Grimgaunt Devourer shows its true colors as a game-winner.  As always, your comments are welcome!

Card Preview #34 is now up on Forge Watch!  Sadly, this is the last Card Preview we have until we get more from SBE.  So, go petition them for more cards and quick!  In the meantime, feel free to swing on by and discuss Deepbranch Prowler with us.

You are a true Champion of Solforge.
Nice read.  Sums it up pretty well.

I know right?  They teased us with the mention of Wolf Pack.  Would have been nice to get a preview.  Maybe the Oracle.  Since Alloyin has the least amount spoiled.

Just saying SB.

The quickest, most reliable way to sort out account issues is to submit a ticket through the Stoneblade Zendesk system: https://stoneblade.zendesk.com/home

Stoneblade really does care about their Kickstarter backers. However, they are much quicker at responding to Zendesk requests than Forum requests. (Also, the Zendesk system tracks requests for them and ensures that no one's request falls through the cracks.)
